Metal Flakes - The Ugly Side of Pretty

"Aside from crafting in a vacuum-sealed room, how can I keep control over these metal flakes?!"

This is a question I asked myself after opening the bag of flakes just to watch them glitter'splode all over the table.  And the cat.  So I did some research, and here are a few tips compiled from others and myself that will reduce clean up, product waste, and unhappy kitties.

1.  GENTLY open the bag of flakes.  Very, very gently.

2.  Open the bag over a…

Design on the Diagonal

Creating a diagonal background with multiple papers is surprisingly easy and fun.  It looks like a hot mess as you work it, but the final achievement is eye popping!

Step 1:  Cut a piece of plain card stock that will act as a template for your design papers.  Hint:  This is a good way to use those scraps!

Step 2:  Choose a few design papers that coordinate or compliment each other.

Step 3:  Find dye inks that coordinate with the papers chosen,…

Slide Mechanism - 14 Steps with Pictures!

The slide mechanism is not my own development.  I saw a YouTube video with the information and adapted it to create a 3D card with a secret message.  It's really easy, and kinda fun!

Here are the components you will need to make a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card.  These pieces / measurements can always be finagled to suit your own needs.

A.  Standard 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card.

(Not Pictured:  Cut 2 scenery pieces:  One 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece, and the second piece should be 5 1/2…

This is the 2nd of the two pre-made cards for when I'm gone.  I wasn't sure where I was going with this one, but it turned out cuter than I expected!  The little bee is so stinking cute.

Thoughts:  I'm a little disappointed with the embossing powder.  I watched a video where a lady layered EP's to get a multi colored, raised effect.  I tried to add red tinsel EP to the heart wings, and it got every-frickin-where.  I don't know if it's the dry air due to it being winter, or if…

Honestly, I needed a card done hastily as I've been trying to get housework done, and get ready to leave for my mom's house for a few days.  I like the way it turned out!  It's simple enough... black cardstock, heart stamp, red sparkly EP, red ribbon, sparkly doodads, and 2 little wedding rings I had left over from our party favors.  Short but sweet!

Since I'm going out of town, I will probably leave the next 2 cards in envelopes with instructions not to open them until the…

So here is day 4 of my 30 Days of Love.  I've decided to try different techniques as I'm card making.  Today I watched a Youtube video of a lady who created a suspended image of a bat, and thought that was the cutest thing!  I wanted to try one of my own, and it was much simpler than I thought.  I took a piece of scrap left over from Christmas, but doesn't look entirely dedicated to the holiday.  I think it could do winter cards, and the pattern is very pretty.  I made just a wee card, and…

This is today's card for Bill.  I tried out the tri-fold card style, and had to redo it because I took shortcuts.  Boo for shortcuts and wasting paper!  I'm not a fan of tri-fold cards because they won't stay closed.

I took a white card base and papered the panels with patterned paper from a pack (say that 5 times fast).  The pack also had tags, and I really loved the picture in one of the tags so I cut it out with an Exacto knife, and added some gold Pearls to different parts…

Here's my 2nd card for my 30 Days of Love series that he got yesterday.  Angel and I share scrapbooking / card making stuff, and she just bought the Juli's Garden Cuttlebug embossing folder and coordinating border because we are making the invitations for her brother's wedding.  I love that folder!  There's so many things I have in mind to do with it now.

I wanted to try it out for Bill's card.  I embossed white cardstock, inked the flowers lightly with Gina K Designs…

Today starts my 30 Days of Love project!  Technically it's the 2nd day since it's after midnight, but hey!  Who's counting?  Oh yeah, I am.  Bill hasn't gone to bed yet, and his card is on his pillow.

I bought the Grateful Heart stamp set that reminds me of him.  I also have a heart shaped lock that came in the grab bag I won.  He really does have my heart locked down.  The conversation we had on the first day we met wasn't like any other I'd had with a guy, and I remember…

30 Days of Love

I want to celebrate my first Valentine's Day with my new husband with what I'm calling 30 Days of Love.  Starting 1/16/14, I will give him a little card each day with a love note handwritten inside; 30 reasons why he's the wonderful man I married, how special he is, and why he's a cut above the rest.

My husband loved his "Fishing you a Merry Christmas" card so much he framed it and put it on his nightstand.  Since he appreciates these things, I'm writing him a love…
