I bought a "Genius" - ultimate platform system by Lifestyle Crafts.  It works in the Big Shot, Vagabond, Cuttlebug and ebosser.  It is 6" x 13" and it is a magnetic platform with 2 plates.  Simple to…Continue

Using Ink or Paint on Your Embossed Image

I have many embossing folders, now.  Some would be wonderful for coloring the images in with either ink or paint.  Have any of you done this?  There are several videos on YouTube that I have watched…Continue

Oops! Added a "comment" instead of a "discussion." Sorry about that! Anyway, when I emboss first, then cut to size, I get "funny" edges. Do you recommend I cut first, then emboss? Or is the problem…Continue

Not sure if I am to ask questions in a discussion or what. Will try this and if not suitable, will have to delete it. I am new to groups, so am at a loss as to what one really does here. Is there a…Continue

I used to want a Cuttlebug (sometime after I bought my Silhouette Cameo, about 3.5 yrs ago) because of the compact size and ability to do both dry embossing and cutting with dies for cardmaking. But, when my favorite chain Craft Store started rotating out their Spellbinders stock in favor of the Silhouette, we bought one of the last Grand Calibur machines because the discounted price was too good to pass up. I had looked for a used Cuttlebug for what felt like "forever" (I know that it really wasn't that long, just that after having watched "everyone" else make make the move from Cuttlebug to the bigger Cricut, and watched Cricut come out with several models; I finally felt like I could legitimately spend the money on "one of those" I wanted to be done with the purchase and get on to the crafting.)  Also, around that time SU had a Sizzix Texture Boutique that I was able to get at a discount. I like the idea of the magnetic platform (since I had played with a Big Shot at some SU activities), but was unable to find out if I could "safely" use a magnet sheet in the Grand Calibur. The directions say that it will cut the magnetic sheet, but no one would tell me that I could use it to hold the dies. I finally gave up and just use tiny bits of tape, but things still slide around sometimes.

I added a link for a magnetic plate.  Look above in the discussions.

I still have my Cuttlebug, but have added a Big Shot Plus machine.  I use it more than the Cuttlebug, but there are some things that are easier with the Bug.  One that comes to mind is the partial embossing.  I find it much easier to use on the smaller platform machine.  Have any of you added different machines to your crafting?

I do not want this group to disappear when the "housekeeping" is done in a few days.

You will want to watch Melanie's new video when it posts here.  I saw it on YouTube and she has a great idea using an embossing folder.

Has anyone gotten any new folders that they are in love with?  I still need to try that idea I found with the same folder turned two ways.  Please share any new folders you have found.

I will definitely show the results of the folder when I get it finished.  I am looking forward to it.

That sounds like a cool idea for the embossing folder. Hope you show the results you get so we can see it as well. And, I knew you would love the metal plate lovinpaper. It is awesome and works every time it seems. Only problem I have is my muscles don't always like to crank that much. LOL

I got my metal plate in the mail today.  It worked great!  I am so glad I finally took the plunge and ordered it.  I cut a flourish die using Gina K paper.  I have struggled with the heavy paper, but this worked so easily.

I saw a video this morning, on another site, where she inked her embossing folder, ran it through, then inked it again and ran the same paper through in a different direction.  She was using a chevron pattern.  This made more of a striped chevron.  I am going to give this a try, when I have time.

I ordered the metal plate.  It will take a week or so to come, but hopefully it will help.  I have a set of embossing folders coming any day.  This one is the Lattice set from Lifestyle Crafts.  I will have all of the ones that Gina sell then.

I was reading the discussion about someone loving the Spellbinders Magnetic Spacer and loving it.  Does anyone else use this and are you happy with it?

The metal plate does work wonderfully and if you don't want to use wax paper then just take a candle and rub over the intricate dies and it releases really well with that too.
