Seasons of Fun with Foil

Hi everyone! This is Sean and I am your host today for Mix It Up Monday! This weekend was my first attempt at foiling! After a few attempts, with a less than pleasing result, I have one that I fell in love with! Karen text me to remind me that I was hosting this week and I told her that I have the PERFECT card for it!

Christmas is my favorite season! I love all of the giving to other and the kindness that people do. It’s a spirit of love and kindness like no-other that I wish could happen each day of the year.

Today, my challenge to you is to make a card with a form of foiling technique on the card. It can be for the Thanksgiving or Christmas season

Here is my card:

I used the following supplies:

  • “Dashing” stamp set by Theresa Momber for Gina K Designs
  • Gina K Designs card stock in Red Velvet and Christmas Pine
  • Gina K Designs embossing powder
  • Red and Silver Deco foil

Now it's YOUR turn! Get busy and create some stunning cards featuring foil for Be sure and have your creation uploaded to our gallery with the tag 'STV16MON44' no later than November 6th, 8PM CST for your chance to win an awesome $20 Gift Certificate from Gina K Designs!

Yay you took the foiling plunge! Isn't it pretty??? I love anything shiny or sparkly so I hope I can play along Sean!!!

So far my foiling has been hopeless so this is going to be a real challenge for me.

Sean, your card is great.  So, what was the technique you loved?

Johanna, don't forget, you can use double sided adhesive, like score tape and foil the lines.  That one is pretty easy and makes a fun background.

Beautiful card Sean.  I love the red and green together and those poinsettias are gorgeous.

Awesome! How did you get the foil to stick to the stamped images?  I thought it only worked with toner printed images?

Beautiful card but not sure I can work with foil at all. I only have a very small amount and no laminator or special toner ink printer. That leaves glue and last time I tried it that was not fun and mostly a disaster. I will have to google places to find out if there is any other options for me to use it. I won't buy a lot of stuff that won't work for me such as the gilding sheets. I do have a few samples and will see if there is enough to get a suitable entry.

Gorgeous Card Seanie!  Thank You for Hosting this weeks MIUM Challenge! A Big Hug too!  <3  :)

Thanks Golda - I actually didn't know you could do it with scor tape so I will give it a try. Have another idea that I've wanted to try so maybe I can combine the two things. Do you still have to run it through heat when using tape? I have a laminator so can try it but I don't know enough about how it all works. Will google and find out a bit more I think.

So if I don't have foil or a laminator and nothing in the budget for craft supplies at this time, is there any way I can participate in this challenge?

Thanks Sean for hosting this week challenge. Love your card and you foiled the stamp image awesome.

Julie: Just a thought but why don't you try the following as this meets the challenge and is something you have in your kitchen. Take a piece of card stock and wrap a layer of aluminum foil around it shiny side up. Choose an embossing folder you like and run it through your big shot or similar machine. Now you have a lovely background that is foil and you can do whatever you like to jazz it up. Like I said it meets the challenge without you having to go out and buy anything. You could also use one of those foiled doilies you can buy as well. Hope this helps.
