cricut which one ?

 I am planning on getting a cricut machine and I think I would go for the personal. I wouldlike to know which one you are using and which one you like best , personal, mini , expression 2....

I have the smaller version of the Cricut. BUT....I have just purchased the Silhouette Portrait, the smaller of the Silhouette machines. I like the Cricut, but the cartridges are quite expensive. The Silhouette cut files are a lot cheaper, $.99 each on the Silhouette website and very inexpensive cut files here on Stamptv. The software is loaded on your computer, so you don't have the cartridges. It's a personal preference, but if I had to get one or the other, I would purchase the Silhouette. I do plan to keep my Cricut for the cartridges that I have, but probably will not use it as often as I will my new Silhouette.  Good luck with whichever you choose!

I have a small Cricut, maybe the Expression, not even sure.  lol  Although this past summer I did purchase a Silhouette Cameo.  There was an issue with my first one but they sent me a replacement and I have been super happy with it.  I think it's a better choice, because of the cartridge expense.  Yes it is alot more money upfront, but in the long run I do believe it is worth it.  I bet you could *google* the pros and cons of each different machine online and find one that suits your needs and your pocketbook.  Good Luck!

Hi Julie I have a cricut and the best one for me is the expression 2. It cuts smaller than the other two, it has a 12 by 12 mat, it is wireless if you purchase the adapter, and it has a touch screen which you can see the actual item you are going to cut.  I can put my expression 2 anywhere in the room and have my computer beside me and still send cuts to the expression 2. There are a lot more things it can do differently. If you would like to know more. I would be glad to tell you. I have used the personal, expression, and expression 2. I hope this helped.

Here's a con.  I have used my little personal now for about three years and it is still going strong.  Yes, the cartridges are expensive if you pay full price (I wait for sales or list it on BD/Christmas lists)  Each cartridge is different, but when you count the number of files it will do, and different sizes, there are a tremendous amount on the ten cartridges I own.

By biggest problem, though, beside the very limited income of a senior, and why I cannot use a Silhouette, my card room which consumes the whole room, is in a different location from my computer.  I have tried to keep my crafts and sewing stuff in that room.  I have a different little desk for my computer next to the kitchen where it is most convenient for me.

I'm still on the fence but if I take the plunge it will probably be the Cameo portrait cause it is less expensive and the size is smaller. I rarely buy 12x12 paper. I prefer Gina's Pure Luxury cardstock and the portrait uses 8 1/2 x 11.

The Cricut and Silhouette machines are both wonderful. I had the Expression and got rid of it when I got the Silhouette.  I preferred the Sihouette over the Cricut in both potential and performance.  But, I don't think you will go wrong with either :)

Lois, I was debating about the Silhouette for exactly the reasons you gave...limited income and having to move my computer. Fortunately, mine is a laptop, so I can take it in my craft room when I need to use the Silhouette.  I keep my laptop right by the sofa in the den, so I can have easy access to it.

 

I always bought my Cricut cartridges when they were on sale. I never paid full price for any of them. I agree that there are lots of options in one cartridge. For that reason, I am keeping my Cricut, even though my husband got me the Silhouette for Christmas.

Thank you so much for your all your advices/suggestions.. I didn't even think of the Silhouette! .. I will look into it.. they are quite expensive machines so I want to make sure I make the right choice :-)))

Julie, I have the original circuit back in the dinosaur ages......Lol... and use it more now than I did when I first got it. I only have 4 cartridges, but feel I have plenty items to pick from! I agree with a lot of everyone's comments and must say that I am intrigued by the silhouette and some day may have to get one... But wanted you to know that the cricut is a great tool also and works well for me! Good luck!

The Cricut and Silhouette machines are both great tools. I have the Expression along with 28 cartridges which I never bough at full price and I purchased the Silhouette during the holidays as a bundle with many extras no shipping and the full Cameo package (could not resist).  I prefer the Silhouette over the Cricut (not that I will get rid of my Cricut) I just feel the Silhouette is so much simpler to use and I have access to so many free files.  But, I don't think you will go wrong with either machine.

Hope you don't mind if I add my 2 cents worth.  I had both the Cricut personal and the Expression for a few years

.  While I enjoyed them both tremendously while I had them, I do not regret my decision to trade them in for a Cameo.  Just today I needed an image and used a jpg file (free of course) from who knows where, traced it, and voila, I had my image.  I even made a cut file (head phones) which I couldn't find anywhere, and it worked great.  So.....to make a long story short, the options of a Cameo are pretty much endless.  There are some lucky people out there who still have the old software programs which used to work with the Cricuts, but that is all done and over now, unfortunately.  I LOVE, LOVE MY CAMEO!  Aint looking back! And thanks Gina for giving me that little push forward.!

Ok I made my decision, I will go for the Silhouette Cameo...!!! Now I have to wait for my birthday to come in May ( I know it's far LOL) I just need to give a heads up to my hubby so he can gather the money ha ha ha... THX guys, you really helped me a lot in making my decision.
